If you are over forty you want to keep your cardio as low impact as possible so as not to strain your legs and especially your back and knees. Running is generally too hard on you, but walking might not really burn calories as fast as you'd like. A good medium is to use the machines in the cardio room at the gym and track the calories burned. If you have a gym membership, try out the bike machines, stair master, electronic treadmill, or stair machine at the gym. Go on one of these machines for 20-30 minutes three times a week to burn a few hundred extra calories a pop. If you keep your diet consistent or a little lighter, you should shed five pounds within a months time.


SUMMER DIET

You will be coupling about three sculpting workouts a week together with around three cardio workouts. This adds up to moderate exercise around 6 days a week for the entire pre-summer month you are really focused on getting into bikini season form. If you couple the exercises I've suggested together with a leaner healthy eating plan you should really start to see a difference after four weeks. You will probably be able to shed some five pounds and it will be real weight not just water weight.

For your bikini diet plan, never let your calories drop to below some 1500-2000 calories a day. Instead, choose healthier and leaner foods. Eat a healthy breakfast, lunch and dinner that includes the basic food groups. Eliminate really starchy food, fried food, and super fatty meats instead going for the lean proteins. Skip junk food snacks altogether and have a natural fruit smoothie with low cal juice instead to quench your sweet tooth.

Don't skip out on meals as that will encourage you to get off track and succumb to temptations. Instead of trying to cut calories with boring salads and melba toast, eat more regular meals. For example, a hearty sandwich loaded with lean meat or a veggie patty, cheese and tons of veggies on whole grain bread will fill you up more than a weight watcher salad. The idea is to eat healthy, lean and yet still consume comfortable amounts of calories. Remember that you can have an athletic larger boned build and still look great in a bikini. It's a matter of toning up and firming your body. After a month be sure to shop carefully for your swimsuit. As you get over forty you look better if you are at an average weight and in good shape for your weight range.

Spend a little more money to get a fabric with stretch containment that fits you nicely and keeps it all tucked in. Colors are important too.
