FRUIT DIET

 

You might have heard of the fruit flush diet, or similar diet plans that promote losing weight only by eating fruit. The idea is that the digestive burden of other foods is relieved and just drinking fruit shakes helps your body cleanse itself by flushing away bad toxins and going into a pure fat melting mode.

The problem with fruit diets and for that matter, any other special diet that infers you should limit your food to one class of items, is that they don't really promote the most healthy way of dropping weight. You can't just eat fruit alone. You should also be eating a healthy well rounded dose of all natural foods that include not just fruit but vegetables and protein.

Any nutritional expert would tell you that losing weight is fundamentally about taking in fewer calories. You might lose weight from just fruit, but its more likely going to be from the fact that you are consuming less calories not from any notion that such a detox diet has magical weight loss benefits.

Pure fruit only diets are trendy and not purely healthy. However, eating a diet that includes a broad range of fruits can certainly help you to maintain and even lose weight. Not only that, fresh fruits will deliver powerful antioxidants to your body.

Juicing can be a good thing. It just needs to be done in conjunction with a well rounded healthy eating plan. Fruits are nutritional powerhouses and consuming a broad spectrum of fresh fruits is good for you.


FRUIT SMOOTHIES

Have you ever heard of a fruitarian diet? Fruitarians eat mostly fruit. I feel that such a restriction in what you eat would be ridiculously restricting and unhealthy. Fruit has so much natural sugar in it, you would not want to eat only that as it would not be good for you.

As long as you combine fruits with a practical well rounded diet however, you will be doing wonderfully. You will be filling yourself with healthy antioxidants. Some of the most powerful fruit anti oxidants can be gained from prunes, raisons, blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, raspberries, plums, oranges, red grapes and cherries.

To up your fruit intake try making fresh fruit smoothies at home. I keep a plentitude of fresh cut up fruit in my fridge. When the fruit starts to get a little soggy is when I throw it into fresh smoothies. I combine fresh fruit, ice and light in calorie juice drinks into the blender and drink a smoothie almost every day. To reduce the amount of sugar, I look for vegetable drinks that are light in calories to throw into the smoothie along with the fruit.

Try the light versions of the V8 fruit fusion drinks, or rotate through a variety of fruit and vegetable drinks depending on what is on special at the market. A handful of fresh fruit, a splash of a light or low calorie fruit or fresh vegetable drink, and some ice will combine to quell your sweet tooth while infusing you with good mix of healthy antioxidants. Smoothies fill you up and can help quell a woman's natural sweet tooth thereby making it easier to stick to a healthy eating plan.

Try drinking regular smoothies they really work. I prefer the homemade versions to the ones you can buy at the smoothie stores as those often sneak in fattening sugars and sherbets behind you back. If you make the smoothie at home you have control over what goes into it and you can be sure to use light fruit drinks instead of ones loaded with additional hidden sugar.

I like to save money on beauty products and foods. That being said, I don't skimp on fruits. I think expensive fruit platters with a diverse mix of yummy pre cut up fruits are a good health investment. I always keep a jumbo Ralph's fruit platter in my fridge. I add to that fruits that are on special such as blueberries, raspberries, cherries, or strawberries. By mixing a fruit platter with whatever is on special I am taking my money further but still getting a complete mix of fruits.

I find that the fresh fruit platters are eaten more readily by my children, and if the fruit starts to wilt or become soggy I make good use of it by throwing it into fresh fruit smoothies that I make at home. Having nice fruit in your fridge provides a good snack for you and your children and gives you a better assortment of antioxidants than just buying one or two fruits. The few extra dollars you spend is well worth it. You can also try the farmer's market in your neighborhood, another way to get a good mix of delicious fruits for yourself and your family.

 

FRESH CUT FRUIT

In order to maximize the amount of healthy antioxidants you are getting, it is good to have a mix of fruits that you are eating. Because fruit is expensive I've tried different approaches to buying it. Unfortunately, whenever I try to save money and just buy one fruit, not only does it often go to waste (ever thrown out a bruised apple or brown banana?) but I don't get the full combination of different fruits.

Over time I learned that investing in nice fruits not only can save me money surprisingly, but give me a healthier fruit intake as well. Now when I market I buy one of those nice fruit mix party platters nearly every time I go. While they cost allot, they have the best mix of melon, kiwi, berries, mango and so forth. The fact that they are pre cut up is a boast also as the more appealing the presentation the more likely I am to eat it.

Buying a fresh mixed fruit platter is worth the premium price you pay. I usually get a large fruit platter, then look for fruits on special to add. For example, I will get a mixed platter and then strawberries or blue berries when they are on special. Buy combining a nice platter with whatever is priced on sale and looks good, you get the best of both worlds.

I've found my children eat the nicely cut up fruit from the fruit platters way more often than they would say, eat a whole apple. Since I don't want to buy allot of fruits, the platters are actually economical for me. After a few days I will use up any fruit left in the platter by throwing it into fresh smoothie drinks that I make at home with a blender.

For women looking to lose weight or jump start a healthy eating plan, investing money in nicely cut fresh fruit is worth while. Combine fruit platters with berries and other fruits on special so you always have a good mix of fruits and maximal antioxidant benefits. A good infusion of fresh fruits and fresh fruit smoothies can really help you feel better and quell your sweet tooth for junk foods.


DETOX DIET MYTHS

I have read over every imaginable fruit detox flush diet. I've seen everything from eating one fruit a day in order to give your body a chance to rest, to eating only fresh fruit smoothies for three days to flush the body from food toxins and cleanse it. I personally do not think that detox fruit diets are a viable way to lose weight.

Some women have an incredibly hard time motivating themselves to get into diet mode. If you have gone off your diet and just can't seem to find the fortitude to get back onto a healthy eating plan, then sometimes these one, two or three day cleanse diets can help. But it is really not that they have some superior nutritional capability. It is more about changing your line of thought and giving yourself some clarity to shift gears and get into a healthy eating mode.

If you need that motivational shift so to speak, then maybe a detox diet for a day or two will help kick start your mental process into a better state. Ultimately though, healthy eating which combines a sensible mix of food groups and practical meal plans will help you the most. Strict diets really don't work long term as they deprive you of a reasonable mix of foods and food groups. Only use such diets as a motivational jump start to a healthier diet and not as an every day means to lose weight.

Appetizing pre-cut fruit is a great snack for your children and what is left over be sure to throw into home made smoothies.
